Everything jewellery manufacturers need to know about automating diamond wax stone setting with Semsons Tech technology.
Product & Performance
A diamond wax setting machine is an automated CNC system that precisely drills holes and places diamonds (stones) into wax models used in jewellery manufacturing. The Semsons Tech machine uses a 5-axis linkage system to replicate the precision of a skilled human setter, but at 9,000–12,000 stones per hour — compared to 800–1,200 for a manual worker.
The machine operates at 9,000 to 12,000 drill operations per hour. This throughput is consistent — it does not slow down over time like a human setter. Running 8 hours, one machine completes 72,000–96,000 stones. Running 24/7, it can set over 280,000 stones per day.
The Semsons Tech machine achieves ±0.02mm drilling accuracy. This is maintained consistently across all operations through our high-precision screw guide transmission system and high-end servo drive. The accuracy is independent of operator skill or fatigue.
One Semsons Tech machine replaces 8–10 experienced diamond setters for equivalent output. The machine also eliminates human errors — missing stones, wrong placement, and inconsistent drilling depth — which are common in manual setting.
The machine handles diamonds and stones from 0.8mm to 3.0mm. This covers the full range from micro-pavé (0.8–1.0mm) to standard brilliant-cut stones (2.0–3.0mm) used in most jewellery production.
Yes. The Semsons Tech machine supports up to 4 different diamond colors or stone types simultaneously. This allows multi-tone jewellery production in a single automated operation without changeover time.
Technology & Features
The 5-axis linkage system allows the machine to move its working head and workpiece along 5 independent axes simultaneously — X (lateral), Y (front-back), Z (vertical), plus two rotational axes (A and C). This enables setting on curved, angled, and complex 3D wax models, not just flat surfaces.
The Intelligent Identification System is Semsons Tech's proprietary vision-based technology that automatically detects when a diamond is missing, misplaced, or incorrectly seated during the setting process. It prevents wrong drilling positions and alerts the operator to any anomalies. This significantly reduces rejection rates.
The PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Touch Screen is an industrial-grade control interface that allows operators to set and adjust all machine parameters: speed, drilling depth, stone placement coordinates, heating temperature, and more. The operating system is proprietary to Semsons Tech and was designed specifically for wax setting automation.
Manual-strength simulation is a feature that calibrates the machine's nozzle pressure to replicate the exact pressure a skilled human setter would apply when placing a stone. This ensures the stone is seated securely without cracking the wax or damaging the stone, mimicking years of human expertise.
The integrated tray heating system maintains the wax carrier at an optimal temperature throughout the setting process. Correct wax temperature ensures stones seat flush, adhere properly, and do not fall out during subsequent handling or casting. It eliminates the thermal inconsistency issue common with unheated manual setting.
Installation & Operation
The machine requires: a stable level floor with a minimum footprint of 1.2m × 1.2m; a standard AC 220V / 50Hz single-phase power supply rated for 1.3kW; clean compressed air at 80 psi (0.4 MPa); and sufficient ceiling clearance for the 1,400mm machine height. The 350KG weight requires a forklift or pallet jack for initial positioning.
Semsons Tech provides comprehensive on-site installation and training as part of the purchase. Operators typically achieve basic proficiency within 1–2 days. The self-developed touch-screen interface is designed to be intuitive for workers with no prior CNC experience. We also provide video training materials and ongoing technical support.
A typical new model setup takes 15–30 minutes for an experienced operator. This involves loading the wax model, inputting or loading the stone placement coordinates (which can be saved and reused), selecting stone size and color parameters, and running a test drill cycle.
Yes. The machine is built for industrial continuous operation. It is designed to run three 8-hour shifts without scheduled downtime. Routine maintenance — lubrication, nozzle cleaning, and inspection — is performed during shift changeovers and takes approximately 15 minutes.
The machine is compatible with all standard jewellery injection waxes, including hard wax, soft wax, and blended waxes. The tray heating system can be calibrated to the optimal temperature range for your specific wax formulation. We recommend consulting our technical team if you use specialty wax formulations.
ROI & Business
Most Semsons Tech customers achieve full return on investment within 12–18 months. The primary savings come from: (1) labour cost reduction — replacing 8–10 setters; (2) quality improvement — fewer rejections and rework; (3) capacity expansion — producing more pieces with the same floor space; (4) 24/7 production capability vs. 8-hour human shifts.
A typical setter in India earns ₹15,000–25,000/month. Replacing 8–10 setters saves ₹1.2–2.5 lakh/month, or ₹14–30 lakh/year. In UAE, Europe, and the USA, the savings are proportionally higher due to higher labour costs. We can provide a detailed ROI calculation for your specific geography and production volume.
